February 23, 2012

Richmond, Virginia, staged a major fundraising event that brought together two special American institutions: the U.S. Navy and the Boy Scouts of America.

The dinner, hosted by the Heart of Virginia Council, raised more than $1,000,000 for local Scouting.  Featured guests included Alvin Townley, author of the acclaimed books on Eagle Scouts, Legacy of Honor and Spirit of Adventure.  His newest book, FLY NAVY, pays tribte to the values and spirit of America's navy.

Representing the Navy were LT Jason "Jay" Redman, a Navy SEAL who received the Purple Heart for sustaining and miraculously surviving major wounds in Afghanistan, along with Paul and Phyllis Galanti.  CDR Galanti served more than seven years as a prisoner of war in North Vietnam and his wife Phyllis helped mobilize the American public to support the POWs in Hanoi and push for their release.

The council recognized the Galantis for their service to country and community, while LT Redman inspired the audience with his message of perseverance.
