Henry Kissinger, Alvin Townley dedicate Stockdale Arena
October 18, 2014

On Saturday morning, friends and students filled South Kent School's soon-to-be completed hockey arena to dedicate the building to South Kent School parents and inspirations Jim and Sybil Stockdale. Vice Admiral Stockdale received the Medal of Honor for leading America's Vietnam POWs through an epic eight-year ordeal. His wife Sybil fought equally hard on the homefront to unite America behind the POWs' cause and bring them home safely.

Speaking at the event were Dr. Henry Kissinger, who played instrumental roles in ending the Vietnam War and returning the POWs; Alvin Townley, who authored the book DEFIANT; Richard Lawrence, who named the arena for the Stockdales; Stockdale sons Sid and Taylor; and others. A set of panels tells the story of the Stockdales' life and will serve to inspire generations of students with their story.
