	Resources \| Using the Books


	<!-- startprint --> <span class=default><p>Scout councils, leaders, volunteers, and individual troops around the country are using <em>Legacy of Honor </em>and<em> Spirit of Adventure</em>, as well as appearances by Alvin Townley, with great effectiveness.  As an important first step, councils have ensured their grass roots membership is aware of the book's availability via newsletters, emails, and other announcements.  They have used the books to share Scouting's message with everyone in their community to build broad support.  </p> <p>Many councils and troops are providing books to new and upcoming Eagle Scouts or others involved in Scouting.  Special arrangements, including bulk/group discounts and autographed copies are available.  Find more information <a title="" target="_parent" href="/page/4787">here</a>.<br> <br><strong>Resources and Ideas</strong><strong><br> </strong><br> Following are several methods for using <em>Spirit of Adventure</em> and <em>Legacy of Honor</em> to promote and strengthen Scouting: <p>1. Recognizing volunteers and stewarding donors, and using Alvin Townley to cultivate key leaders and donors.  </p> <p>2. Congratulating new Eagle Scouts (find a local sponsor for books to these new Eagles). </p> <p>3. Communicating the Scouting message to the public by sharing the book with individuals and groups not directly involved with Scouting (business and civic leaders, Rotary and Kiwanis Clubs). </p> <p>4. Engaging the media with press releases pertaining to the book, and if appropriate, offering the media local angles (See resources in <a title="" target="_parent" href="/page/4762">Media</a>). </p> <p>5. Encouraging leaders and Scout parents, and providing them with material, stories, and lessons for use with Scouts. </p> <p>6. Re-engaging or discovering Eagle Scouts and Scouting alumni with publicized events involving the book and/or author. </p> <p><strong>7. </strong>Activating National Eagle Scout Association chapters, providing material for events, and re-engaging NESA members.  Working with these groups to develop local <a title="" target="_parent" href="/page/4782">Eagle Reserve</a> initiatives or <a title="" target="_parent" href="/page/4783">Alumni Service Partnerships</a>.</p> <p><strong><span class="blueheader">Events</span></strong></p> <p>Numerous councils of all sizes and from coast to coast have hosted or planned events at which the author will speak to donors, leaders, Scouts, and/or volunteers about the book and its inspirational message.  Successful events include Eagle Recognition Dinners, FOS or fundraising events, Scout expos and camporees, and "Gatherings of Eagles."
