DEFIANT garners bipartisan support
December 17, 2013

In a year fraught with partisanship, leaders on both sides of the aisle found common ground in DEFIANT, acclaimed author Alvin Townley's upcoming book on POWs.

Former POW and U.S. Naval Academy graduate John McCain said, "DEFIANT is a riveting tribute to the unyielding men who endured years of brutal captivity as POWs in Vietnam and the families they left behind. The men of the "Alcatraz Eleven" are true American heroes and their extraordinary stories will serve as an inspiration for generations to come."

U.S. Naval Academy graduate and former President Jimmy Carter said, "These heroic men and women remind us how courage, devotion, and faith can triumph even in the darkest of times. In DEFIANT, Alvin Townley masterfully tells the inspirational and unforgettable story of our Vietnam POWs and the Alcatraz Eleven." Of note, President Carter graduated USNA alongside two of the leading POWs featured in DEFIANT, Jim Stockdale and Jeremiah Denton, one a Medal of Honor recipient, the other a U.S. Senator from Alabama.

DEFIANT will be released nationwide by St. Martin's Press on February 4, 2014, with a special private ceremony in the U.S. Capitol taking place on February 5, and a public event at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library & Museum in Atlanta, Georgia, on February 12.
